Notes from a Wise Woman

On haters hating and the private glow up

Updated: Jun 23, 2020

I have a thought that’s been nagging at me…

The evil eye is real. Hateful people really do focus too much energy on seeing others fail. I really do think it’s important to consciously guard ourselves from mal de ojo. Hate culture comes in many forms. From straight hating on people’s happiness to constantly putting down popular pass times and the people who partake.

Hater culture makes it so that one will literally, in secret, celebrate their glow ups. Privately marking milestones so as not to incur the haters coming out to jinx their success and diminish their joy.

We have been so conditioned towards jealousy and envy that we hoard happiness and almost too willingly share misery. Or refuse to hint at any feelings at all lest someone take advantage of you for both your strengths and your weaknesses.

We hide from each other because when we reveal ourselves someone(s) will surely come out of the woodwork to try and steal your joy.

We stifle our love Keeping joyful, vulnerable and intimate thoughts to ourselves lest we seem thirsty. We pretend to be cool when we are hotter than hot and we find ways to extinguish those flames.

The haters are going to hate me regardless, the jinx and the fakes and all the phonies will still lie, cheat, steal from and betray me despite all my precautions.

The only person you need to be better than, is the person you were yesterday.

I say all this to say…My loves, do not hide yourselves. Do what brings you joy and do it as often as possible. Follow your dreams no matter how silly they seem to others. Be who you are, unapologetically. Be happy. Be in love. GLOW UP. GROW UP. LIVE UP. LOVE UP. This is it boos. This is all we get. I do not know what comes after, though I can make a million assumptions.

Yes, love has hurt sometimes but, try it again anyway. Yes life hurts sometimes, keep on living it, please, because you matter. FIND YOUR PEOPLE. LET THEM FIND YOU. REVEL IN SELF LOVE AND APPRECIATION. Do not worry for one moment, “how this looks,” to not a damn other person. They can’t live your life for you and trust that they couldn’t if given the chance. Be you, be loved, BE LOVE!

Love is like a beacon that let’s the universe know where you are. That lets others who need it find it. I love you. I hope my beacon is shining bright. I wish for you to be kind to yourselves.

Celebrate every single success so the universe sees you, so those like you can see themselves too and celebrate and know gratitude. More success will surely follow! I promise!

“I used to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it’s true I’m here, and I’m just as strange as you.” – Frida Kahlo
